The Keris Stainton Blog Tour: Stop #4!

Today is my day of Keris Stainton's fabulous blog tour! Keris is a debut author of Della Says OMG which came out on the 20th April. Here is my review of it:
Della's over the moon when she kisses her long-standing crush at a party - but then she discovers her diary has disappeared...When scans of embarrassing pages are sent to her mobile and appear on Facebook, Della's distraught - how can she enjoy her first proper romance when someone, somewhere, knows all her deepest, darkest secrets?
I was SO excited when this novel came through the post the other day that I literally jumped up and down, and then sat on the sofa and read it. ALL DAY. By the first sentence, 'Is that what you're wearing?' Maddy asks me.'  I was hooked. This book has everything a novel could need - romance, mystery, an awesomely cool cover and more! - and I was sooo sad when I'd finished! The 270 pages flew by, for me anyway, and I really hope there is a sequel.

Also I think it will be a big hit with teens because some of it is based on Facebook and I also think teens could relate to Della and her best friend Maddy quite a lot.
My favourite character was Della because I think she was quite funny and it was cool how she got herself out of embarrasing situations.
This book gets a 5/5 from me! Fantastic novel, you should definitely go buy it right NOW!!! By the way, if you're wondering where to buy it, CLICK HERE, where it says Della Says OMG has a five star rating!! How cool is that!? Keris - I really hope you keep writing because you're brilliant at it!

  1. TMLB Note: This question has been moved from the post below to this post so Keris doesn't miss it. The following is Sm's own words.

That sounds interesting! So my question would be:

Keris Stainton: What is neccessary to become an autor and can you share some tips to avoid "stupid" misstakes in the beginning of an autor-career?

I´ll follow this blog via twitter.. maybe my question will be answerd... I´m looking forward!

If you like you can also follow me on my blog:

  2. Thank you! I just answered it there, but I'll paste my answer in here too! :)

Hi sm. Great questions - thanks! What's necessary, I think, is determination. Writing a book takes a long time and getting published often takes even longer (it's taken four years from me signing with my agent to my book coming out!). You need to accept rejection, try and learn from it and not get discouraged.

As for "stupid mistakes", well first of all everyone makes them, so don't beat yourself up if you do. Secondly, the best thing I think is to join a writing group so you can run everything past them first and you're not relying on just your own judgement. I never wanted to join a "real world" writing group where you might have to read your writing aloud *shudder* so I set up an online group and it was the best thing I ever did.

    Good luck!

  3. Cool review Amber!

Keris: Through your experience as a writer, have you figured out why it is easy to write a lot when there is a time limit, but when faced with a several hours for working on a wip (work in progress)the flow of words slows down?

  4. Hi Nayuleska! And LOL! No! I haven't figured that out, I'm afraid. I do try and work with it by writing my first drafts during National Novel Writing Month (

The other thing I find is that when I CAN'T work - away on holiday, looking after the children, computer broken - I am desperate to work. But when I have a free day and all the time in the world to write, I will do pretty much ANYTHING other than writing.

Interesting thing, the human brain! :)

  5. Oooh!
I have a question: Are your characters based on real people, or fictional?
I always ask authors this question- because I find it so interesting when they reply things like 'One character is based on somebody I know....' and it's the evil character of the book. Or its an imaginary friend or something :)
    Ria xx

  6. Hi Keris, how long did it take you to write 'Della Says OMG'?

  7. Hi Ria! None of the characters in Della are based on real people, no. In fact, I don't think I've based any character on anyone I know. Sometimes I use a celebrity as "inspiration", but that's all.

  8. Thanks for your question, Top Floor T. Della took about 3 months to write and then another 3 months for rewrites and edits, I think. The book was due to my publishers at around the same time my baby was due, so I knew I had to get it done in time! :)
